Order an Official Transcript Online

NSU has partnered with Parchment Inc. to offer online transcript ordering. Parchment also can provide PDF versions of official transcripts. There is a $9 fee per copy. Parchment will not issue unofficial transcripts.

  • Students are encouraged to order transcripts online to help prevent delays.
  • Online ordering is not available for Si Tanka or Huron University transcripts; please use the transcript request form under "Request an Official Transcript by Mail."
  • Transcript requests for current students are held at the end of each term during the grading process.  Transcript holds are placed from approximately the beginning of finals week until approximately 10 days after finals week.
  • Transcripts contain your complete academic record including courses, grades, and degrees from all SD Board of Regents institutions for both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
  • For questions about Parchment, please email esctranscript@sbdor.edu or call 605-658-6160.

What is an official transcript?

An official transcript is a legal document printed on safety paper which bears the university seal and university registrar's signature for each university attended.

The six South Dakota public universities listed below share student records in a single database:

  • Black Hills State University - Spearfish
  • Dakota State University - Madison
  • Northern State University - Aberdeen
  • South Dakota School of Mines and Technology - Rapid City
  • South Dakota State University - Brookings
  • The University of South Dakota - Vermillion

Students may obtain a consolidated set of academic transcripts from any university reflecting all academic credit from all South Dakota public universities. For coursework taken Fall 2003 and later, students no longer need to request a transfer of courses from one South Dakota public university to another.

If you have been asked to submit an official transcript, you should request that it be mailed directly to the requesting individual, school or company; or, if they allow it to be enclosed with an application, you should enclose it in the unopened NSU envelope in which you receive it.

Unofficial Transcripts

Unofficial transcripts may be obtained through Self-Service Banner (SSB) by following these instructions.

Since SSB access is terminated six months after graduation, graduating students are advised to plan in advance to screenshot or print unofficial transcript copies.

Diplomas/Duplicate Diplomas

A diploma is a certificate issued by NSU that indicates a student has successfully completed the requirements for a specific degree. One official diploma is mailed to you upon graduation. It will include the student's name, date and degree earned.

Additional duplicate diplomas may be requested in writing from the Registrar's Office for $10 per duplicate diploma. Signatures on a duplicate diploma will reflect current officers and may not match the original document. Majors are not recorded on the diploma, but a transcript will reflect that information.

Only diplomas from Northern State University are available from the Registrar's Office. We do not duplicate diplomas from Si Tanka or Huron University.

To request a duplicate diploma, please fill out the Duplicate Diploma Request Form or include the following information in a letter:

  • Full name and any former names used while attending any of the universities
  • Student identification number
  • Date of birth
  • Approximate date of graduation
  • Current address and daytime phone number
  • The name you wish to you on your diploma (i.e. John Smith or John W. Smith or John William Smith)
  • Whether or not you need a diploma cover
  • Complete address to which each diploma is to be sent
  • Your written signature (federal law prohibits acceptance of a computer-generated signature)
