  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University students will host a Health Fair from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on March 28 in the NSU Dacotah Hall Gym.  

    Put on by NSU students of the HLTH-320 Community Health Class, the Health Fair will feature nearly 30 booths including Aberdeen Hypnosis, Avera Sleep Lab, National Kidney Foundation of the Dakotas, Safe Harbor, Aberdeen Parks and Recreation, Aberdeen Curling Club, Aberdeen Running Club, Northern Counseling Center and many more.

  • When Lucille Tollifson heads down to Sioux Falls on the Northern State University fan bus today, it won’t be the first time she’s watched the men’s basketball team at nationals – she also took a Northern fan bus to Kentucky 20 years ago to cheer on the Wolves.

    Tollifson, who turns 90 in June, is looking forward to the trip and even went to the NSU Wolf Shoppe on Friday to buy some new maroon and gold attire.

    “It’s just an exciting time to be able to watch those Wolves play,” she said.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Drs. Allen Barclay and Doug Ohmer of the Northern State University School of Business have co-written a scholarly article that will be published in the Journal of Management Policy and Practice (JMPP).

    The article, titled “Using Appreciative Inquiry to Manage Generation Y” will be published in volume 19, issue two of JMPP.

  • ABERDEEN, SD - Northern State University will host the 65th annual Mathematics Contest at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 18, in the Barnett Center.

    Roughly 800 students from approximately 50 area schools are expected to participate, according to Dr. Stacy Trentham, NSU assistant professor of mathematics and contest director.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Symphonic Band and Concert Band will present “A Celebration of Women Composers” at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center.

    The concert will feature the work of Julie Giroux, Anne McGinty, Jennifer Higdon, Kathryn Salfelder, Kimberly Archer, and Shelley Hanson. The program will include a variety of music such as unique non-traditional marches, a tone poem about Christ on the Cross, and a piece that features antiphonal brass inspired by the music of Giovanni Gabrieli.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Housing applications are up 20 percent from last spring at Northern State University as more students are attracted to the university’s new residence halls.

    As of March 1, 157 new students have applied to live at Northern this fall, said NSU Director of Residence Life Marty Sabolo. That compares to 127 housing applications last year at this time, and 89 the previous year.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Chamber Singers will celebrate the 333rd birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach with the eighth annual “Bach’s Lunch” on Wednesday, March 21.

    The concert will begin at noon at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave. S.E.

    Bach’s Lunch will feature the NSU Chamber Singers, under the direction of NSU Director of Choral Activities Dr. Timothy Woods.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University will hold the 35th annual Northern South Dakota Science and Mathematics Fair on Thursday, March 22.

    Approximately 60 judges from surrounding areas will be judging the projects of high school juniors and seniors from 20 surrounding schools in the area and interviewing these students.

    The students involved come from Brown, Campbell, Day, Edmunds, Faulk, Hyde, Marshall, McPherson, Roberts, Spink and Walworth counties.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – More than 100 middle and high school students from northeastern South Dakota will be on the Northern State University campus on March 14 for the National History Day regional competition.

    More than 100 students from eight schools will present research projects as part of the competition, which will run from 8 a.m. to noon in the NSU Student Center and Missouri River Room.

    This year’s theme is “Conflict and Compromise in History.” Nationwide, more than a half million kids participate in National History Day every year.
