  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Less than two years—that’s how long it took Gabbie Brandt to complete her master’s degree, earn her secondary education certification and snag her first teaching job.

    Now, Brandt will begin teaching 10th and 11th grade English at Sioux Falls Washington High School this fall—and it’s all thanks to Northern State University’s M.S.Ed. Educational Studies: Secondary Education program.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University student Ramón Vega Jr. is the winner of the 2022 Mrs. Schaefer Scholarship.

    The $1,000 scholarship, named after educator Gloria Schaefer, is awarded annually to one junior or senior at a South Dakota college.

    Vega is a Physical Education major at Northern and a member of the NSU Wolves Baseball Team.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Aberdeen area law enforcement investigated a potential safety concern at Northern State University on Friday morning. No threat was found and campus was deemed safe.

    Officials issued an all-clear at around 10:30 a.m. Friday, and regular campus activities resumed.

    Initially, the campus community was asked to avoid the west side of campus. However, the Aberdeen Police Department, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Aberdeen Fire and Rescue, and Brown County Emergency Management all responded and investigated, leading to the all-clear.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The day before Grandma’s Marathon, Dakotah (Bullen) Lindwurm was asked many times about her goals for the race.

    “My answer to everyone was that I would be happy with a 2:26,” said Lindwurm, a Northern State University alumna. “But I thought, on the right day, I had a 2:25 in me.”

    June 18 was the right day for Lindwurm.

    She finished at two hours and 25 minutes—only 33 seconds from the course record—and won her second straight Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minn.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s new Regional Sports Complex has been selected as a finalist for a national architectural design award.

    The Regional Sports Complex, which includes Dacotah Bank Stadium and Koehler Hall of Fame Field, is featured in Athletic Business magazine’s 35th Annual Architectural Showcase.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs has accepted the Northern State University School of Business’ Full Quality Assurance Report with no notes or conditions.

    This acceptance by the ACBSP Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Board of Commissioners is an extension of the NSU School of Business’ 2016 accreditation with the organization. That board also reviewed and accepted Northern’s initial Quality Assurance Report in 2018.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Registration is now open for the 106th annual Northern State University Gypsy Day Parade, set for Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022.

    The parade will begin at 9 a.m. in downtown Aberdeen. Entrants will decorate their float based on this year’s theme, “Wolves on Broadway.” A panel of judges comprised of Northern and community leaders will present awards in various categories.

    ABERDEEN, S.D. – Two Northern State University faculty members have won a South Dakota EPSCoR grant that will fund an expansion of Northern’s Nora Staael Evert Human Performance Lab—a project that will benefit NSU students, athletes and the entire region.
